Northern lights alerts in Iceland
Get notified when our cameras see the northern lights.
Visiting Reykjavík or western Iceland? Choose WhatsApp, SMS or a phone call for your stay.
How the alerts work
- Choose your channel and number of nights.
- Pay securely through Teya. Your welcome message includes a receipt link when available.
- Receive an alert when our sky cameras detect northern lights.
Where we watch
Our sky cameras watch Reykjavík and Borgarbyggð in western Iceland. An alert reports what the cameras see, rather than a forecast. Check the live sky and local cloud cover before going outside.
Aurora visibility is never guaranteed. Clouds, light pollution and your location affect what you can see.
Questions about aurora alerts
Is this a northern lights forecast?
No. Alerts are based on northern lights observed by our sky cameras. The separate live page also offers an outlook, which is different from an observation.
How quickly will I hear?
The sky cameras are checked every three minutes after dark. Detection and message delivery take time, so an alert is not an instant guarantee.
Can I get a phone call?
Yes. Select Phone call at checkout. Calls run from 22:00 to 08:00 Iceland time. Earlier alerts arrive by SMS and count as that night’s alert. WhatsApp and SMS are also available as your chosen channel.
How many alerts will I receive?
At most one alert per night. If the cameras do not detect northern lights, no aurora alert is sent.
Is this for tourists in Reykjavík?
Yes. The 5-night package is designed for a short stay. Reykjavík and Borgarbyggð are the camera areas, but cloud cover and visibility can differ where you are.
Can I try it before paying?
Yes. The signup page offers one free test per phone number using the last recorded aurora alert. It is a sample from a past observation, not a claim that the lights are visible now.
Does it renew automatically?
No. You pay once for the nights you choose. The package ends after that period. You can stop alerts using the link in your welcome message.
Who runs the service?
Bláberg is operated by Tuenda ehf. in Reykjavík, Iceland. Contact blaberg@blaberg.is for help.
What happens to my phone number?
We keep your number, chosen channel and nights for 90 days after alerts end, then delete them. Card details stay with Teya.
